The following areas MUST provide their own driving partner for the in-car portion living less than 5 miles apart:

Prosper, Aubrey, Celina, Mckinney, Princeton, Carrollton, Irving, Lewisville, North Dallas, Central Dallas, Highland Park, Addison, Murphy, and Farmers Branch

Note:    Fuel Charge of $39.00 will apply for the following areas:
Aubrey, Celina, Central Dallas, Highland Park, Murphy, Lewisville and Irving.

Texas Teens 14 years of age enrolled in school are eligible to take the New Virtual Drive Online Course

Complete 32 hours online anyway, then choose your own Driving school for in-car portion.

Go to Step 6, skip 1 thru 5 and start online classes right away.  It’s Easy, Fun and Convenient!

Step 1: Complete Teen Driving School Contract, Print, Read, Initial, and Sign.

Step 2: Complete the Student Drivers Ed Questionnaire, Print, answer questions, and Sign.

Step 3: Complete Student Information only on Student Driving School In-Car Record

Step 4: Pay Check to “Smart Choice Driver” for $90.00 deposit toward in-car portion or we can email you a google                        credit card invoice by request (3.5% added fee for credit cards)

Step 5: Mail payment, with completed registration documents in steps above to-

Step 6: Sign Up Now for Virtual Drive Drivers Ed

You will pay $150.00 with credit card for this course

-Teens have 120 days to complete the online course before it expires

Note:  Two final payments of equal amounts will be due at the beginning of first and second in-car lessons.

Once your teen has received completion certificate for the online course

then take the following documents to your DPS office and request the written exam to earn learner’s permit:

1.  DL-14A – Learner’s Permit Application

2.  Certificate of completion for Virtual Drive Online Driver’s Ed Course

3.  Current completed and signed VOE – Verification of High School Enrollment

4. Certified birth certificate

5. Original social security card or proof of it by completing affidavit

6. Up to $16.00 cash, check or credit card

Step 8: Once you earn your learner’s permit, call Smart Choice Driver to schedule your first in-car lesson.

Step 9: Bring copy of Virtual Drive Driver’s Ed certificate, Learner’s Permit and payment to your first in-car lesson.

1. Parent must complete the TEA 20 hour behind the wheel log form  Click on links  below for instructions and log form.

2. VOE – Verification of High School Enrollment

VOE must be less than 30 days old during school year; if issued last 5 days of school is good for summer.

3. Original Social Security Card or proof of SSN by completing affidavit.

4.  Valid Learner’s Permit with picture

5.  $11 cash or check
